This studio encouraged us to develop a design based on the way people interact with the current space, whilst also developing model making and idea generating skills.
Landform and frame and grid models were created then smoothed to create a third model. We were then asked to compose a story based upon the word ‘meet’ with an accompanying collage. These were then all superimposed to create a draft plan of the site, with the final being an
abstraction of this.
The design is a meeting place of opposites, developed from the short story and poem, featuring repetitive linear steel elements, and a contrasting blue and red structure to emphasise the idea of uneasiness and contrast, whilst still being a functional space that responds to the needs of its users.
(2016)
Two hands touched, a connection between the divine and humankind. A somewhat paradoxical environment they created, one that challenged the norm and caused unease. A place where cultures collide, where east meets west, on a north south plane. A place where time and space coexist, where the stars of the heavens sparkle and dance during the glow of the day. The creation was a meeting place of opposites.
