The new Studley Park Boathouse was created from a brief to create a design following the principles of Kazuyo Sejima. The boathouse cantilevers over the landscape, and has been designed to maximise its connection to the environment whilst minimising disruption of the land by reducing the amount of ‘underground’ space.
An exposed structural steel frame draws inspiration from the Shiabura House, and its rectangular cantilevered form from the Hitachi Station. Internally, individual rooms with different programs are defined by curved glass and plaster walls, inspired by the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art and the Toledo Glass Museum.
